The Different Types of Spyware
The term spyware has been applied to any program on your computer that transmits information about you without your knowledge or consent. Most spyware programs DO NOT notify you that they send information back to a host server. There are many malicious applications attacking your computer.

Spyware
If you’ve downloaded software from the Internet, you may have also inadvertently downloaded spyware. Although spyware can often be attached to shareware, it can also download with legitimate commercial software which sends your personal information back to the distributor. In most commercial instances, you are asked to accept the terms of the End User License Agreement – which may include consent to transmit this information.

Scumware
The term scumware is often used to describe programs that interrupt or redirect your web surfing. Scumware can also transmit your personal information, whether or not you’ve downloaded a program from a particular website. It can be neatly packaged with some of the Internet’s most popular programs, and it is most often installed on your computer without your consent.

Malware
The term malware is used to describe the more hostile types of spyware. It actually means "malicious software" nd can cover a wide range of aggressive programs such as Viruses, Trojan Horses and Worms. It is software that is designed specifically to damage or disrupt a system, files or its components.
